The Tahoe Gal’s nightly dinner cruise gets hysterical Monday, July 23, when Ron Shock and Kathleen Dunbar entertain diners with their sharp tongues and sarcastic wit.

Called “The hottest comic in show business” by Entertainment Tonight, storyteller Ron Shock quit his corporate job at age 40 to start his career as a stand-up comic. Since then he’s performed for the “Tonight Show,” “An Evening at The Improv” and Showtime’s “All Stars.” He regularly performs at the Tropicana Casino in both Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

Wisconsin native Kathleen Dunbar performs at comedy clubs around the country. Called “sexy and sassy” she has competed in the HBO “Comedy Festival” and the Bud Lite “Ladies of Laughter.”

The two and one -half hour cruise departs from Tahoe City at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $31 per person and includes voyage and entertainment.

The sixty-foot Tahoe Gal offers a full bar, extensive wine list and creative cuisine. Executive Chef Larry Hare integrates seasonal flavors and creations onto a lip-smacking menu while preparing everything fresh from the galley.

Ron Shock

Ron Shock is without a doubt the very best story telling stand-up comedian around. Telling a story, with a plot, character development, and so on is a waning art in stand-up comedy. Fortunately, Ron Shock is keeping that tradition alive on American Storyteller, his latest independent comedy CD. Recorded in Louisville, Kentucky, American Storyteller is Ron Shock at his best.

Although American Storyteller reprises Biker’s Titty Bar from the CD Oral Roberts, 900’ Jesus & Other Tall Tales (an excellent comedy CD) and Ron Shock fans will recognize a few other setups and jokes here and there -like the non-smoking lady at the L.A. airport), this is still a solid release by independent stand-up comic Ron Shock.

The Pursuit of Happiness is basically a funny series of jokes about enjoying life while we are still alive and not worrying too much about the consequences of tobacco, drugs, and alcohol. This may sound slightly banal but the talent Ron Shock has for exploring the semantics of drugs and alcohol make for very funny stand-up comedy.

Track 4 of American Storyteller, My Personal Fitness Guru, segues beautifully from the material on tobacco, drugs, and alcohol. Again, Ron Shock encourages his audience to enjoy life while they are living it as we are all going to die anyway: “Get stoned, f** a stranger, eat a Twinkie.”

The crowd that evening was particularly rowdy, which is annoying to the listener, and Ron Shock acknowledges that and works with it on the Jokes section of American Storyteller. These are blue quickies used by Ron Shock to work around the audience and the fact bills are being tallied at the club.

Too often when a stand-up comic works blue comparisons are immediately made to the late, great Lenny Bruce, forgetting that Lenny Bruce did work blue but he was using blue language as an art form and in an exploration of the English Language (as in To is a preposition, Come is a verb). Sex Is Good, the last track on American Storyteller belongs in the pantheon of brilliant stand-up routines built around the meaning of words. Ron Shock does an excellent, complex, and very funny set on the various meanings and vocalizations of Oh, God! This track alone is worth the price of this independent stand-up comedy CD and, by the way, gives you a very good trick to get rid of your visiting mother-in-law.

Kathleen Dunbar

Located in fabulous Las Vegas where she stared in “Kathleen Dunbar’s Divas of Comedy Show” for the last 2 years. Jerry Fink of the Las Vegas Sun recent said “one of the brightest comics can be found in Las Vegas”. Las Vegas “What’s On” magazine current said “I think she’s a sitcom waiting to happen”.
Kathleen was the Comedy Winner in the “2003 Las Vegas Star Search” competition. In 2005 the Entertainment Consumer’s Exchange awarded the “Excellence in Entertainment Sunrise Award”. They awarded her again in 2006 and 2007 with the “Favorite Comedian” award. She is making her mark in Las Vegas and around the country.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin this comic has Midwest values and ideals. Now living in fabulous Las Vegas she has developed into a sarcastic edgy woman with attitude and humor. Being a divorced mother has provided her with a quick wit and a realistic look at life. Her observation of the world around her is outrageous! Blended together makes for a very funny lady. Audiences around the country are praising this hilariously funny lady. Kathleen is one of the funniest female comics to hit the industry in years.

Stan Stankos

A Stand-Up Comic in New York City, orginally from Chicago, Stan is a comedian not to be missed. He’s a frequent guest on the Bob and Tom show and his second cd “Stosh” is heard on both XM and Sirius satellite radio and can be downloaded on iTunes.
