Headliner – Jim Giovanni During comedy boom of the 80’s, Jim appeared on several episodes of Comedy Tonight on PBS and began headlining comedy clubs nationwide. It was “on the road” that Jim developed his “alter ego”, Buck Butane, a country singer with a knack for writing “laugh out loud” parodies other people’s songs. Word got around and Jim was soon opening for Merle Haggard, Crystal Gayle, Reba McIntyre, Ronnie Milsap, Kenny Rogers, The Oak Ridge Boys, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Wayne Newton, Ray Charles, Kris Kristofferson, and Willie Nelson, among others. After hearing Jim (Buck) sing one particularly hilarious rendition of a “Willie” song, Willie Nelson said, “He’s usin’ my words against me again.” Willie’s wife Annie said she’d never seen Willie laugh so hard. Now in his forth decade as an entertainer, Jim’s act is a mixture of stand up comedy, music (guitar, trumpet, squeezebox), impersonations, and song parodies, with bit of magic thrown in for good measure. “I have something for everyone”, Jim says. “Lots of classic impressions: The Godfather, Columbo, Clint Eastwood, Louie Armstrong, Governator Arnold, General Patton. It’s funny and, best of all, it’s all clean, even my Redd Foxx impersonation!” Jim’s material is “off-beat and very funny”, according to Hut Landon of the Pacific Sun. “An unusually clever, resourceful, and creative entertainer”, wrote John Wasserman of the San Francisco Chronicle.” Gerry Nachman of the San Francisco Examiner said that Jim’s comedy “shows a zany mind.” Feature – Grant Lyon Though barely an adult, Grant has been around. He grew up in Los Angeles, moved to Chicago, came back to Sacramento, and ended up in Santa Cruz. Moving forced him to be outgoing and make friends easily, and now those experiences help him make friends with every audience. He discovered stand-up while playing collegiate soccer at UC Santa Cruz, and unfortunately for his soccer coach, the passion of his life changed. Multi tasking between college, sports, girls, and finally living on his own gives Grant Lyon more than enough material to keep audiences from all over captivated and coming back for more. Host – Rowie Born and raised in Sacramento, Rowie spent his winters skiing and racing in Tahoe at Alpine Meadows. Rowie left Sac for Lake Tahoe in the 80’s to coach for the Squaw Valley Ski Team and chase the extreme skiing scene which was just taking off. Along with skiing he’s an avid golfer which keeps him busy year round. He has opened for some of America’s biggest comedians. With fans throughout the country, Rowie’s act grabs your attention, keeps it, and makes you want to hear more. Guest Spot – Aaron WilsonLocal funny man Aaron Wilson takes making people laugh seriously, "One thing I try to do is make people pee their pants, if I can do that I know I've done well. Getting his start in Elko, Aaron hosted pig auctions then moved on to funerals and finally got his big break at an open mic in Sparks. Since then he's appeared several times with Tahoe Comedy North in the Crown Room at the Crystal Bay Club and Tahoe Gal. "Eventually I'm going to go back and buy that dang pig farm!!" Look for Aaron on Comedy Central and HBO. |
