Headliner – Jack Mayberry
Jack Mayberry began doing comedy on the road at a very early age. Unfortunately the road was the one in front of his house in rural west Texas and traffic was moving very fast. Then one day Jack’s family moved… and then they moved again… and again and again for a total of twenty some odd moves! (Jack doesn’t really remember. He says they still have mail trying to find them!) So while he doesn’t figure he got much in the way of a formal education always being the “new kid” did help Jack develop an act.
The Comedy Workshop in Houston, Texas was jumping. Crowds were lined up around the block to get in. And on the marquee, "Tonight: Jack Mayberry." Jack had found his calling! Where had “professional stand-up comedy” been all his life? Why wasn't this represented in high school on Career Day? “Stand-up comedy” is what Jack Mayberry had been meant to do ever since he could... well, “stand-up!” Soon Jack signed off on his radio career and began traveling around the country headlining at colleges, comedy clubs and corporate events. Within five years he had moved to Hollywood and was appearing regularly on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
Since then Jack has appeared on numerous television programs such as, A & E’s “Evening at the Improv,” NBC’s “Hot Country Nights, many Comedy Central specials and has made over twenty-five appearances on the Tonight Show. Then Jay Leno asked Jack to appear in a comedy sketch on The Tonight Show. He wanted him to portray presidential candidate and gadfly, Ross Perot! Whereas some might not, Jack took this as a compliment and accepted. After the show, Jack went home, watched the videotape and thought, "Yikes! I look exactly like Ross Perot! Now what am I going to do?!"
Well, many more "Tonight Show" sketches, that's for sure. Over twenty! And in addition to his “dead on” caricature of Ross, his crowds are also treated to his clean and funny stand-up comedy.
Feature – Marc Yaffee
Marc is a gifted writer and performer, delivering original comedy, inspired by his multi-cultural upbringing and Native roots. Marc careens across the comedy landscape leaving a trail of laughs that has made him a hit with club, casino and corporate audiences alike. Marc combines hip, edgy observations with a rapid, one-liner delivery style.
While doing sports, Marc started writing for the school newspaper, developing his love of writing that still shows in his standup today. Marc continued writing at the University of San Diego where he served as sports editor while commuting regularly to the bars of Tijuana, Mexico.
Marc is returning for his second appearance with Tahoe Comedy North and first at the River Ranch Lodge.
Host – Aaron Wilson
Local funny man Aaron Wilson takes making people laugh seriously, "One thing I try to do is make people pee their pants, if I can do that I know I've done well. Getting his start in Elko, Aaron hosted pig auctions then moved on to funerals and finally got his big break at an open mic in Sparks. Since then he's appeared several times with Tahoe Comedy North in the Crown Room at the Crystal Bay Club and Tahoe Gal. "Eventually I'm going to go back and buy that dang pig farm!!" Look for Aaron on Comedy Central and HBO.
