H A Distributors presents Tahoe Comedy North on Tuesday, May 4th at the Crystal Bay Casino Crown Room. Doors open at 7:00 and show starts at 8:00. Headlining the show in his first Tahoe Comedy North appearance is one of the hottest rising Latino comics, Manny Maldonado. Hosting for the evening is a comedian that can morph blue collar comedy with the high tech world, Bob Johnston. The guest spot for the evening is filled by Soultino (Black, Filipino & Italian) comedian, Jason Armenio. Manny Maldonado – Headliner
Manny Maldonado was born in Modesto, CA. His journey to comedy wasn’t planned. Manny’s goal was to play professional football. The problem was he was to damn short! After high school, he attended junior college to pursue a dream in sports broadcasting. While in college he participated in speech debates and found his speeches were always funny. Short after he dropped out of college to try stand up comedy. Ten years later Manny is recognized as one of the hottest rising Latino comics in the country. Manny has worked overseas and from coast to coast in some of the best comedy clubs in the country. He has worked with Dave Chapelle, Dave Attell, and George Lopez. Manny’s TV credits include B.E.T Comic View, Latino Laugh Festival, Comics Unleashed and Que Locos to name a few. In 2007 and 2008 Manny was selected to perform on the “Crown Royal New Latin Kings of Comedy Tour” with comic legend Paul Rodriguez. He recently appeared on Comedy Central’s Comedy Rehab and was a guest panelist on Dr. Phil.
Bob Johnston – Host
Bob Johnston is insulted when upon finding out that he has a Biology/Chemistry degree, people remark how smart he must be. He says it doesn’t take brains to get a 4 year degree in 13 years. Working a variety of jobs from UPS man, Taco Bell manager, State Employee and Firefighter while going to school, gave Bob insight that appears in his routine as he skips easily from baldness to ex-girlfriends to traffic problems. A professed bachelor, Bob is a high energy comic who grew up in a small town, moved to the San Francisco Bay area after college, and has been called “the only Redneck in the Bay Area”. Bob does a great job morphing blue collar comedy with the high tech world. From his sister’s “Hog farm” to his love of cats, Bob routinely wins over audiences with his unique brand of humor.
John Ager – Guest Spot
John Ager’s road to comedy took an untraditional path. His jobs have included janitor, police officer, US Air Force security, United States Deputy Marshal, and a safety manager for a trash company, all of which have contributed to his outlook on life, death, and maintaining a silly attitude toward golf and family. Not a natural progression to comedy, but after dealing with trash, what else can be done?
John has performed in clubs from Reno, NV to Philadelphia, PA. He is a regular face in comedy clubs throughout the United States and parts of New Jersey. John’s versatility has helped him appear at many corporate functions. He has hosted game shows, held roasts, opened for Emo Phillips, and worked with some of the biggest acts, (okay, some of the LARGEST acts), across the country.
