Headliner – Tom Rhodes
In a raucous stand up career spanning 25 years and 7 continents, Tom Rhodes has been on HBO, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and filmed two half hour specials for Comedy Central “Comedy Central presents…Tom Rhodes”. Tom was also the host of his own late night talk show in Amsterdam for Dutch television. Tom is one of those rare exotic creatures who has dedicated his life to stand-up comedy. Starting out at the tender age of 17, in Orlando, Florida he was soon touring the Southern United States and up the eastern seaboard to New York City. But it wasn’t until Tom moved to San Francisco, that he discovered his comedic “voice”. There in the city he describes as “The Jerusalem of Stand-Up Comedy” he was discovered by Comedy Central. Tom was given the channel’s first ever development deal contract which led to his critically acclaimed hour special “Viva Vietnam!: A White Trash Adventure Tour”.
The following year at the Montreal Comedy Festival he was “discovered” again, this time by NBC who gave him his own sitcom on the network called “Mr. Rhodes” where Tom played a rebel teacher in a stuffy prep school trying to inspire revolution in his students. The sitcom was short lived but Tom took his “NBC artist’s grant money” and moved to New York City to rededicate his life to the art of Stand-up comedy. As Tom’s horizons broadened he found himself regularly performing in London, which led to many other engagements in the Comedy clubs scattered across Europe. While performing in Amsterdam he was seen by the Dutch television network, Yorin , who gave him his own late night talk show entitled “The Kevin Masters Show : starring Tom Rhodes”. The much loved show ran for 2 years with Tom interviewing Holland’s biggest celebrities and experiencing every aspect of the unique Dutch culture.
At the end of the show’s run the same network gave Tom a travel show named “Yorin Travel” where he got to film highlights on Peru, Russia, France and the Dutch Caribbean. Tom’s lovable personality and warm charm have won him fans all across the globe. He continues to perform regularly in Asia, Australia, Europe, and all across the United States. Pretty much anywhere there is a comedy microphone plugged in.
Having come a long way from his small hometown of Oviedo, Florida, to a seasoned world class performer and traveler, Tom Rhodes is truly an International Man of Comedy.
Co-Headliner – Mike Pace
Michael Pace has been doing comedy since gas was $1.50 a gallon and he drove a Datsun. At the time he wore- a thrift store vintage tuxedo jacket, untied tennis shoes and a mullet. After raising three kids-he has learned to tie his shoes, got a haircut and buys clothes from a regular store and headlines all over.
Since his start Michael has been invited to the prestigious – Aspen Comedy Arts Festival, where he was a crowd favorite. His relationship with HBO continued when he was on Larry David’s Emmy Award -Winning-“Curb Your Enthusiasm”. Michael himself was nominated for an Emmy Award for his work –behind and in front of the camera “Comic Relief”. Michael was most recently featured on “Comics Unleashed”.
Host – Johnny Steele
Johnny began performing comedy in 1984 after quitting graduate school in a move his parents named: Operation $40K Down The Drain. But Johnny quickly got the hang of the craft and was soon performing - and drinking for free! - at the nation's top clubs.
During the next decade Johnny went on to perform at comedy festivals, win comedy competitions, log over 20 national TV appearances, and did we mention drink for free?
In 1997 Johnny left the comedy scene to host San Francisco's Live 105 Morning Radio Show. Guests ranged from Carol O'Conner to David Bowie to city supervisors, and both the S.F. Weekly's annual readers' poll and the S.F. Publicity Club picked it the city's best show. The Chronicle called it the 'best morning chatter show' and also dubbed it 'clean and smart.' Therefore, it was cancelled in the summer of '98 to make room for the Howard Stern Poop and Wiener Hour.
In 1999 Johnny's career took another turn when he became co-host of KRON/Bay TV's THE SHOW. For three years Johnny's informal interview style and outrageous ad-lib comments kept everyone laughing. The irrepressible Johnny once told feminist photographer Annie Lebovitz that he bought her book Women because he thought it was a directory. Well, he kept almost everybody laughing.
Johnny is currently performing comedy as well as working on a number of web, radio, and TV projects, one of which is bound to take off due to, if nothing else, pure dumb luck. He is also working on a humorous solo show about his journey to find peace in a WalMart America gone mad with mindless consumption, endless sprawl, and bone jarring stupidity. And really, aren't we all? *** |
